Penetration of Bangladesh
into Ship Building Export
Bangladesh
is stepping into the global market of ship-building. It is
for the first time Bangladesh is entering the export market
of sea vessel. A Bangladeshi ship building company titled
M/s. Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd. made an agreement
with Stella Shipping Co. of Denmark for the export of ship.
Two Container vessels of 2900 D W T each ordered by Denmark
is under construction in the Dockyard of Ananda Shipyard &
Slipways Ltd. which is expected to be completed within the
next two months. The value of this export order amounted to
US$ 12.00 million.

The Denmark Company made another contract with the same company
producing two more ships at the cost of US$ 26.54 million.
Apart from this, Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd. will
also supply another ten ships to a German company within two
years at the cost of US$ 120.00 million. Accordingly to M/S.
Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd. they have more fifteen
export orders of ship building worth of US$ 152.38 million
for different European countries. A German company named Momroski
Martin and another German company named Re-Ediri have placed
order for the import of four ships and six multipurpose Bulk-Carrier,
the values of which stands at US$ 49.00 million and US$ 67.37
million respectively.

The ship building industry of Bangladesh has attained international
standard by now. There is a demand of US$ 400.00 billion for
ship building industry in the global market. There lies huge
opportunity for earning more foreign currency as well as creating
of huge employment in the sector by using available skilled
labour, expert engineers. The ship building export will be
added as a new non-traditional items of export in our export
basket, which the Government in pursuing to diversify the
new export base.
